our slogan
Is an artist whose medium is wool, whose method is sewing,
whose madness is peepwool.
about the artist
You might say the peepwool ambushed me.When my first son was born, I began making clothing for him out of bits of stuff I had been hoarding in my parents' basement since childhood. Felting, cutting and re-sewing sweaters into garments and hats for him, I was literally wrapping him in my love.
Over time, clothing gave way to more organic, wool forms which I needle-felted and embroidered, then embellished with found objects such as lace, buttons, plastic flowers, and other treasures. Thus, the peepwool tiptoed onto the scene.
The peepwool are an expression of my inner world and my experiences as a mother-among other identities-and reflect my experiences of intimacy, separateness, bewilderment, frustration, wonder, and joy. Yet the peepwool clearly have identities and agendas all their own. They are me; they are not me. I am their instrument and they are mine.
Today I live and work in a small, rural Wisconsin town with my husband. Together we are two artists trying to run two businesses while chasing three small sons. Our days are filled with cooking, taking walks, countless games of Go Fish!, watching our five year old perform, waiting for our baby to sit on his own, and marveling at our remarkable good fortune.
We share our lives with an ever-changing cast of peepwool.
